Former Super Falcons forward, Desire Oparanozie, has urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure parity in the care and attention given to both male and female national team players.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau recently demonstrated the organization’s commitment to its players by personally visiting injured Super Eagles players.
A photo shared on the Football Federation’s social media pages showed Gusau posing with Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong, Porto FC defender Zaidu Sanusi, and FC Nantes forward Simon Moses.
Expressing her concerns, Oparanozie criticized the NFF for not extending the same level of support to injured female athletes as they do to their male counterparts like Tosin Demehin and Ashleigh Plumptre.
“It would be even better if this level of support is extended to the women as well,” Oparanozie wrote on her official X account.
“Tosin Demehin is presently injured and is in the same country as Moses Simon, while Ashleigh Plumptre is also sidelined,”
The 11-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions recently confirmed their places in the 2024 Olympic tournament, showcasing their dominance on the field by overcoming Banyana Banyana of South Africa.
Facing formidable opponents such as Brazil and Spain in their group, coach Randy Waldrum will rely heavily on key players like Demehin and Plumptre to be in top form for the upcoming tournament.
Oparanozie’s advocacy emphasizes the significance of gender equality in sports, emphasizing the importance of equitable treatment and acknowledgment of female athletes on par with their male counterparts.
