Scottish midfielder and former Norwich player, Todd Cantwell, expressed his optimism that the current impressive form of Cyriel Dessers, combined with their partnership, can propel Glasgow Rangers to success as they near the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Following a sluggish start to his tenure in Scotland after his transfer from Cremonese in Italy last summer, Dessers has endeared himself to fans, particularly after scoring a brace in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup against Hearts last Sunday, securing Rangers’ spot in the final where they will face arch-rivals Celtic United.
Dessers’ recent goals, which have seen him tally 19 goals and eight assists after initially struggling with just three goals in his first 20 matches, have significantly contributed to Rangers’ title ambitions in both the league and cup competitions.
With only five league games remaining in the season and Rangers trailing Celtic by three points, Cantwell is hopeful that their partnership and the chemistry they share can be instrumental in securing titles as they approach the crucial stage of the campaign.
“From one of our initial training sessions, it became evident that we were on the same wavelength,” Cantwell remarked according to Rangers Review. “Hopefully, we can now build some momentum together until the end of the season and contribute with goals and assists.”
Despite a lackluster 2022/23 season with the Italian club, during which he managed a mere 10 goals in 32 games across all competitions, the Gers were willing to pay £4.5m to secure the services of the striker from relegated Cremonese.
Since then, the Nigerian has cemented his position as a key player in Philippe Clement’s squad and is poised to feature in all six remaining matches of the season, barring any injuries.
