Mr. Myson Nejo, a legal practitioner, has emerged as the African Democratic Congress candidate for the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo State, scheduled for November 16, 2024.
During the party’s primary election held on Friday in Akure, the state capital, Nejo secured victory with a total of 114,911 votes. His closest rival, Chief Dayo Falana, garnered 9,651 votes.
The Chairman of the 2024 ADC Governorship Primary Election Committee in Ondo State, Mr. Eyiowuawi Abdulrazak, explained that the party employed a direct mode of primary election. This involved voting at the 203 wards across the 18 local government areas of the state.
Abdulrazak disclosed that a total of 148,700 votes were cast, with the winning candidate securing 114,911 votes.
He further mentioned that initially, six aspirants had expressed interest in the race, but two eventually withdrew.
In response to the primary outcome, Nejo expressed appreciation to all party members for their support in ensuring a fair and credible election that culminated in his emergence as the party’s flagbearer. He pledged to prioritize good governance in the state if elected in the November 16 election.
He expressed, “Addressing the myriad challenges facing our beloved state, such as insecurity, high unemployment rates, inadequate critical infrastructure, and basic social amenities, remains a daunting task in governance. These issues extend across various sectors including education, healthcare, and energy.”
“In a democratic society like ours, the rule of law serves as a cornerstone, encompassing respect for national and state laws in governance, impartially implementing legislation, and crucially, honoring judicial processes, particularly court rulings.
“If entrusted with the governorship of Ondo State, we will prioritize upholding the rule of law, recognizing that a law-abiding environment is pivotal to a nation’s economic growth. Education, healthcare, agriculture, and security will be our focal points.
“Ensuring quality primary and secondary education will be paramount in our administration. Equipping our youth with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate the rapidly changing, technology-driven world of the 21st century is imperative.
“We are committed to providing resources for the development of technology-related skills among young school leavers, preparing them academically and professionally for the challenges ahead.”
