Vera Anyim, the woman whose recent testimony at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Abuja, stirred controversy and gained attention, is now seeking assistance from Nigerians to secure accommodation. Anyim made this appeal in a video circulating on the internet since Thursday.
Her testimony, initially met with skepticism by the church’s Senior Pastor, Paul Enenche, triggered a heated online debate. Enenche interrupted and questioned the credibility of Anyim’s testimony during the church service.
The individual who asserted to hold a “BSc in Law” from the National Open University of Nigeria faced accusations of falsehood from the senior pastor. He contended that her statements did not reflect the discourse of a law graduate and maintained that there was no such degree as a “BSc in Law.”
The episode sparked diverse responses on social media when it became apparent that the testimony was authentic. Some urged Enenche to apologize for his remarks, while others supported his position.
In a statement, the church issued an apology to Anyim, expressing regret for the Senior Pastor’s actions. They clarified that his actions were motivated by a commitment to upholding standards of excellence and integrity within the church community.
Anyim, who recently came back from a sponsored vacation at Portland Resorts Hotel in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is currently reaching out to Nigerians for help in finding new accommodation.
She perceives her current living conditions as unsafe and appeals to the public for assistance. She expressed, “I want to convey to Nigerians that while this unexpected fame brings joy, I never anticipated it.
It happened suddenly, and I was unprepared for the spotlight. I want to use this opportunity to ask for help with accommodation because I currently lack the financial means to rent a house. Where I reside presently is precarious and insecure. It’s an exposed area, and my newfound celebrity status has made it widely known.
When I left Abuja, some residents in my compound were unaware of the situation, but now many are aware and some have expressed hostile intentions. My brother, who resides with me, informed me that people have gathered, waiting for my return.”
She expressed concern about potential misunderstandings, fearing that people might assume she received a large sum of money during her time in Port Harcourt. The chairman of the Port Harcourt-based resort, Azubuike Ihemeje, had extended an invitation to Anyim for an all-expense-paid trip.
“This is why I am speaking up and seeking assistance to find a place to stay where I can feel safe. Currently, I am hiding myself to avoid potential misconduct from others. Please, if there is any way you can help me secure accommodation where I can feel safe as a human being, I would greatly appreciate it. Intelligent individuals will understand my predicament.
I don’t want to relocate or live in just any place. If you are willing, your assistance, no matter how small, would mean a lot to me.”
