The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority has informed Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority that Air Peace has allegedly violated several aviation safety regulations.
This development follows just three months after the Nigerian carrier began operating the Lagos-London route.
Reportedly, two mandatory occurrence reports on Air Peace had been submitted to the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority, which then forwarded the complaints to the NCAA.
The CAA’s complaint letter forwarded to the NCAA was titled “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report” with reference number CAA-UK-2024-0217, and “NATS Management System Safety Report.”
The NCAA has also requested Air Peace to clarify the issues raised.
Their letter, reference number NCAA/DOLTS/APL/Vol.11/03624, was titled “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report.”
Dated May 14, 2024, the letter was signed by NCAA General Manager of Operations, Capt. O.O. Lawani.
In the letter, the NCAA mentioned that the UK CAA had highlighted the lack of operational approval for Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) functions, which affects the safe operation of the aircraft. Additionally, the flight captain admitted to using an EFB for navigational purposes.
The NCAA also noted that the CAA pointed out the absence of a mounting device for the EFB, no charging points, and no backup battery.
Air Peace recently began operations to London Gatwick from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between Nigeria and the UK.
Air Peace spokesperson Stanley Olisa could not be reached for comment at press time. When called, he initially answered but remained silent once the reporter began asking about the issue, eventually ending the call. A text message sent to him also received no response by the time of this report.
