A man in his middle age, who previously asserted in a widely circulated video that he is a son of Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has now issued an apology to the revered traditional ruler.
In the initial video, the man, dressed in a white Agbada, alleged in Yoruba that the monarch had concealed his existence along with his mother, instructing him to remain discreet.
He also stated that the Ooni’s silence regarding his status as a prince prompted him to create the video.
He issued a two-month ultimatum, demanding an invitation to the palace; otherwise, he threatened to disclose additional secrets.
In response to the video, Moses Olafare, the spokesperson for the Ooni, released a statement on Thursday, denouncing the man in the viral video for impersonation. He mentioned that the issue had been reported to security agencies for appropriate measures.
Subsequently, another video emerged online on Friday, showing the man offering an apology to the traditional ruler.
The man recounted an encounter he claimed to have had with the Ooni in a dream back in 2022, where they engaged in discussions and the Ooni gave him a wrist bead. He asserted that he experienced another dream involving the Ooni just a month ago.
He explained, “I had a motive behind creating that video. In 2022, I dreamt of being in the presence of the Ooni, engaging in conversations. Initially, I was unaware that it was a dream because the Kabiyesi gave me the bead for my wrist. However, when he raised my hand, I suddenly woke up.
“After waking, I was puzzled by the encounter with the Ooni of Ife, but eventually concluded that he is the father of Oduduwa land. Dreaming of him is not uncommon or inappropriate. It’s worth noting that I had never dreamt of an Oba before; typically, my dreams involve governors, not an Oba.
“Three days following this dream, I traveled to Ile-Ife in an attempt to meet the Ooni. Despite my efforts, I couldn’t meet Kabiyesi, and I left in the evening after spending the entire day at the Ooni’s palace.”
He mentioned that due to his inability to meet the traditional ruler in person, he opted to produce the video as a way to garner his attention.
Furthermore, he stated, “After returning home from the Ooni’s palace, I felt there was a deeper meaning to the dream I had about him. Consequently, I decided to create the video. Additionally, I produced music with the hope that when the Ooni sees it online, he might consider extending an invitation to me.”
dditionally, I reached out to someone in Canada for assistance in arranging a meeting with the Ooni. Despite their guidance through certain protocols, all efforts to meet the Ooni or have him listen to my music were unsuccessful.
“A month ago, I had another dream about the Ooni, which led me to contemplate its significance. As someone who creates skits, I decided to produce a final skit to emphasize my earnest desire to meet the Ooni. This is why I referred to the Ooni as my father in the video.”
The man, who did not disclose his name in the first and second video clips viewed online, earnestly appealed to the Ooni, expressing that his intention was not to defame him.
“To my esteemed father, I sincerely apologize if my actions have caused any displeasure. My intent in creating the video was not to defame you but to capture your attention so that I could share my dream with you and hopefully meet you,” he stated.
He clarified that addressing the Ooni as his father was not erroneous, as the Ooni holds the position of leadership among the Oduduwa descendants.
“Nonetheless, you remain my father because you are the esteemed leader of Oduduwa land. I urge Nigerians not to circulate my video to tarnish the Ooni’s reputation, as its sole purpose was to seek his attention,” he emphasized.
Regarding the first video, the palace spokesperson had commented that Oba Ogunwusi, as a responsible father and custodian of tradition, recognizes and acknowledges all his children and is committed to assuming full responsibility for them.
