Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has announced that his administration is in sync with the Federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the health sector, aiming to enhance access to quality healthcare services in the state.
Otti made this declaration during a meeting with Dr. Salma Ibrahim, the Special Adviser to the President on Health, and her delegation, who were visiting Abia for advocacy purposes.
He underscored the mutual goals shared by Abia and the Federal Government, particularly in the realm of healthcare, emphasizing a collective effort toward a shared objective despite political variances.
Otti remarked, “Considering the comprehensive outline you provided regarding the President’s renewed hope agenda, particularly in the health sector, I believe it’s fair to say that even though we may belong to different political parties, our objectives align. We are both striving towards the same goal.”
“We have already embraced the Federal government’s renewed hope agenda. Upon hearing your presentation, it became clear that the areas of focus for the Federal government coincide with our own priorities.”
Governor Otti highlighted his administration’s accomplishments in the healthcare sector, including a substantial budget allocation for healthcare, the reinstatement of accreditation for the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, the settlement of healthcare workers’ salaries, and efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality rates.
He expressed his administration’s willingness to collaborate with the Federal Government to enhance healthcare services for the populace.
Earlier in her address, Dr. Salma Ibrahim, the Special Adviser to the President on Health, urged for collaboration between Abia and the Federal Government to expedite the implementation of health sector transformation initiatives outlined in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
She emphasized the need for sustained efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality rates nationwide and pledged the Federal government’s support to Abia State in implementing various healthcare policies. Dr. Ibrahim also commended Otti for increasing the healthcare budget by 15 percent.
