The Director-General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Secretariat, Asishana Okauru, has declared his voluntary retirement.
His retirement will take effect on Monday, July 1, 2024, with pre-retirement leave scheduled for Monday, May 20, 2024.
Okauru conveyed his decision in a letter titled “Notice of Voluntary Retirement,” addressed to the forum, on Saturday. In his announcement, he expressed deep gratitude for the support he has received during his tenure.
“I sincerely appreciate your invaluable support throughout my tenure as Director General,” he remarked.
His departure signifies the conclusion of a notable era for the NGF Secretariat.
“I hereby formally announce my voluntary retirement from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Secretariat, effective Friday, May 17, 2024, with effect from Monday, July 1, 2024.
“My pre-retirement leave will commence on Monday, May 20, 2024.
“I deeply appreciate your invaluable support throughout my tenure as Director General.
“Thank you, and my very best wishes,” the statement concluded.
The NGF, a coalition of the governors of the 36 states of Nigeria, is expected to commence the process of appointing a successor.
According to the NGF website, Okauru began his career at the Nigeria Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in 2003 as a foundation staff and later became the pioneer Director of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), serving until November 2008.
Prior to this, he held positions at Arthur Andersen & Co., Nigeria, and IBM in the USA as an Operations Analyst and e-Business Analyst.
He holds a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), a Law degree from the University of Ibadan, and a joint Masters degree in Business Administration and Information Science from North Carolina Central University (NCCU), USA. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989.
