Three individuals tragically lost their lives in a fatal road accident on Friday along the Akungba-Ikare Road in the Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The accident involved a Toyota Camry with registration number LND 592 GX and two commercial buses.
According to an eyewitness, the driver of the car unexpectedly opened the door, striking the motorcycle carrying the victims.
This caused the victims to lose their balance and fall onto the road, where they were subsequently run over by another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.
The victims reportedly succumbed to their injuries on the spot, while the driver of the car promptly fled the scene out of fear of retaliation, abandoning his vehicle.
Reports indicate that enraged youths in the vicinity set the car on fire.
Ezekiel Son’Allah, the Ondo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, affirmed the incident, attributing it to improper overtaking and violation of traffic regulations by the vehicles in question.
Son’Allah stated, “Three individuals lost their lives, and the accident stemmed from improper overtaking and disregarding traffic regulations. Law enforcement officers transported the victims to Aduloju Hospital Akungba.”
He urged drivers to adhere to traffic regulations and recommended the installation of speed bumps on the road to prevent further accidents.
