The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has closed down 50 outlets in Kaduna State for vending edible oil in unsanitary conditions.
This action was undertaken as part of a sensitization workshop for dealers, with a focus on Registration Procedures and Food Management.
According to a statement shared on the agency’s official platform on Saturday, NAFDAC sealed these outlets to prevent potential health hazards linked to contamination.
“The Director of the North-West Zonal Office, Mrs. Josephine Dayilim, underscored the hazards associated with consuming oil processed in unhygienic settings, highlighting the potential risks of foodborne illnesses, gastroenteritis, and even cancer resulting from inadequate processing and the use of corrosive equipment.”
Dayilim further stressed the necessity of employing food-grade materials and maintaining sanitary production environments to safeguard consumer well-being.
In February, Lagosstate.com reported that NAFDAC conducted raids and sealed no fewer than 1,321 patent medicine stores in Kano’s Sabon Gari open market as part of its efforts to cleanse the pharmaceutical industry of unwholesome practices by dealers.
