Between March 23 and April 26, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency took temporary measures to close down at least five churches and 19 hotels due to noise pollution, as reported by Saturday PUNCH.
Further examination by our correspondent revealed that four markets and shopping complexes were also shut down for similar environmental infractions.
Among the churches temporarily sealed are St Monica’s Hall of Our Lady of Lord’s Catholic Church, Christ Rock of Fire Ministry, Wonderful Bible Prayer Ministries, God’s Porch Ministries, and an unnamed Catholic Church.
Among the affected hotels are School2bar, Blue Seasons Hotel and Suites, Sulerious Lakeside Hotel, Monero Hotel and Suites, and Lekki Hotel and Suites.
According to a post shared by Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, on his official account on Friday, various establishments, including churches, bars, and hotels, in areas such as Ifako-Ijaiye, Abule-Egba, Alagbado, Command, Abesan Estate, and Dopemu, were sealed due to noise pollution.
The statement outlined, “In a significant effort to tackle noise pollution and other environmental violations, LASEPA conducted a thorough enforcement operation today in strategic areas of Ifako-Ijaiye, Abule-Egba, Alagbado, Command, Abesan Estate, and Dopemu within Lagos State.”
The affected establishments include the Catholic Church, Seventh Heaven Bar and Lounge, 1602 Hotel, Lourita Hotel and Suites, Wonderful Bible Prayer Ministries, God’s Porch Ministries, White Pavilion Hotel, Quest Hotel and Suites, Honey Comb Confectioners Limited, and Excel Hotel and Suite.
“These establishments have been temporarily shut down to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. LASEPA stressed the crucial importance of businesses adhering to environmental standards.”
