Aisha Yahaya, a 300-level female student from the Food and Science Technology Department at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology in Wudil, Kano, was discovered deceased in a student lodge located outside the school premises.
According to report on Monday, it was revealed that the female student passed away on April 22, 2024, immediately after completing her first examination during the ongoing first-semester examination period.
A student from the school, who preferred to remain anonymous due to concerns about potential victimization, “She was found dead right after finishing her first paper. Some individuals close to the deceased student suggested that she might have succumbed to the pressure of examinations. The incident occurred outside the campus, specifically in the students’ area. She was a 300-level student in the Food and Science Technology Department.”
In a condolence statement issued by the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, jointly signed by its Ameer, Harun Harun, and Public Relations Officer 1, Ibrahim Tata, it was stated, “Death, the inevitable fate of all beings, is ordained by Allah. However, whatever unfolds has been predetermined by Allah, the Almighty, and is unquestionably in accordance with our creator’s will.”
“The MSSN, Adustech Wudil, extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives, friends, students, faculty, and the university administration for the passing of Aisha Yahaya Olabisi.
“The deceased, a Level 300 student from the Department of Food Science and Technology, was known for her commitment to social responsibility towards humanity and her local community.
“We beseech Allah to pardon her shortcomings, grant her peace in the afterlife, and graciously admit her into Jannatul Firdaus. May Allah provide the family members with the strength to endure this loss and abundantly compensate them with blessings and protection.”
The statement from the school’s Students Union Government, signed by the association’s spokesperson, Hassan Kani, on behalf of the group’s president, Adamu Ado, and dated April 23, was obtained on April 29. It expressed condolences for the loss of Aisha Olabisi, a Level 3 student in Food Science and Technology. The statement read in part, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Aisha Olabisi, and we pray for peace and blessings upon her. Our heartfelt condolences go out to her parents during this difficult time. Aisha will be fondly remembered for her contributions and the memories she leaves behind. May Allah grant Aisha Olabisi Jannatul Firdaus and give her family the strength and patience to endure this challenging period.”
Efforts to contact the institution’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Abdullahi, were unsuccessful as his mobile phone was unreachable. A text message sent to his phone on Wednesday remained unanswered at the time of filing this report.
Similarly, when reached for comment, the spokesperson for the state police command, Haruna Abdullahi, could not be reached as his mobile phone was switched off. He also had not responded to the text message sent to his mobile number.
In 2021, a 22-year-old student of Ahmad Idiris was found dead days after being reported missing from the school. The student, enrolled in the Department of Physics at 300-level and hailing from Abuja, disappeared while reportedly going to purchase a mobile phone at a GSM market in Kano. Following a police investigation, the student’s body was discovered at a sand excavation site in Mariri, on the outskirts of Kano City.
