Officers from the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have apprehended two individuals, identified as Kulu Dogonyaro and Elizabeth Ojah, for allegedly attempting child trafficking. They also rescued five minors who had been taken by the suspects.
Back in February, operatives from the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, specifically attached to the Rapid Response Squad 74, arrested a pastor named Simon Kado, along with his relative, Jesse Simon-Kado, and their driver, Muhammad Isah, for involvement in child trafficking. The arrests occurred as the suspects were transporting 12 underage children—eight girls and four boys aged between five and 16 years—from Nasarawa State to Ogun State.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, on Thursday, the two female suspects, Kulu Dogonyaro and Elizabeth Ojah, were apprehended on April 27, 2024, around 8:00 p.m. at the Kagini Junction in Abuja. The suspects were intercepted while attempting to transport the five children into the Federal Capital Territory.
Adeh stated, “The individuals, who initially tried to evade capture by the Sokoto Police operatives, were ultimately detained by our vigilant officers in Abuja.”
The children, aged between six and 12 years old, have been transferred to the Sokoto State Police Command for additional investigation and for the purpose of reuniting them with their families.
Igweh encouraged parents and guardians to stay watchful and promptly report any suspicious behavior to the police.
The CP reaffirmed the command’s dedication to combating child trafficking and other criminal activities within the FCT. He stressed, “We will persist in our efforts to safeguard the well-being of all residents, particularly our children.”
The suspects are presently under police custody and will face charges in court once investigations are concluded.
The FCT command further urged residents to stay vigilant and report any unusual activities, assuring them that the police would remain steadfast in ensuring the safety and security of everyone.
