At the onset of discussions about the movie involving Tiwa, her co-producer Jimi Adesanya disclosed at a press conference that there were initial funding challenges.Tiwa Savage allocated a portion of her mortgage funds towards the production of her debut feature film, “Water and Garri.” Directed by Meiji Alabi, the movie, co-produced by Tiwa and Jimi Adesanya, premiered on Prime Video on Friday, May 10, 2024.However, during initial discussions about the movie with Tiwa, Adesanya disclosed at a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, May 9, 2024, that there were funding challenges.Although Tiwa eventually purchased the house in the UK prior to the film’s release, she utilized a portion of the initial mortgage funds to address the funding shortfall.Meji and I established our company over a decade ago, and we’ve achieved success in various areas such as music videos, commercials, and content creation. While we had built up some reserves, it wasn’t initially sufficient. Tiwa, who is also a remarkable businesswoman with numerous aspirations and plans, became involved in the project. As we began to develop the idea, it became one of those guilty pleasures,” Adesanya explained.
“When we had a discussion and got on a call with Tiwa’s accountant, we realized we needed to sort out the funding. At the time, Tiwa was in the process of purchasing a property in London, which she eventually acquired even before the film’s release. Essentially, she invested some of her mortgage funds into the film, taking risks on herself and placing bets on her own success. As for us, we had numerous projects and endeavors underway, but we chose to prioritize this initial release,” Adesanya elaborated.
