Mohbad’s demise sparked controversies, leading the Lagos State Government to order a coroner’s inquest into the matter. On Wednesday, pathologist Prof. Shokunle Shoyemi stated that the cause of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba’s (also known as Mohbad) death was determined to be ‘uncertain.’
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the musician passed away on September 12, 2023, and was laid to rest the subsequent day at the age of 27.
His demise stirred controversies, leading the Lagos State Government to initiate a coroner’s inquest into the circumstances surrounding his death. The inquest commenced on October 13, 2023, and is currently underway at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court.
hokunle stated that determining the cause of the singer’s death proved challenging due to the advanced decomposition of his body at the time of the autopsy.
Addressing Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi during the coroner’s proceedings, Shokunle explained that despite exhaustive efforts, the severe state of decomposition prevented a conclusive autopsy.
He emphasized that this situation left numerous questions regarding the circumstances of the death unanswered.
Shokunle informed the court that the autopsy was conducted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, with photographs taken for documentation purposes.
Furthermore, he clarified that the late singer’s body had not undergone embalming and had already begun decomposing before being brought in for autopsy. Additionally, he refuted allegations claiming that the singer’s neck had been bent and bleeding post-mortem, asserting them to be untrue.
Additionally, he mentioned that upon the body’s exhumation, large stones were observed placed atop his grave.
Another witness, Owofeni Ibrahim, who underwent cross-examination earlier, testified that he and the deceased singer had been acquainted since childhood and were friends. Ibrahim informed the court that he regarded the singer as calm, intelligent, and industrious.
“Whenever I encountered Mohbad, he seemed fine,” he stated. The coroner adjourned the inquest until June 11.
