She refutes Gadd’s allegations regarding sending him 41,000 emails, numerous tweets and messages, and a solitary letter.
The online inquiry concluded with Fiona Harvey, portrayed as the character Martha in the series, being interviewed by the controversial journalist, Piers Morgan.
Harvey, whose real name is Fiona Harvey, maintained during the interview that she never harassed Richard Gadd and plans to take legal action against the streaming platform that produced his controversial series.
The 58-year-old Scottish woman argued that she had only encountered the comedian on three occasions. When questioned about the nature of some of the messages, she described them as “playful banter.”
She then confronted the creator of the series, who intended to shed light on the issue of stalking rather than incite public outrage, a point he himself reiterated multiple times. Harvey claimed they had met “two or three times,” recalling how she had once referred to him as “reindeer.”
“I believe he always intended for this to happen. If he happens to be watching, I implore him: Please, cease contact with me. Move forward with your life, find meaningful work. I’m appalled by your actions,” the Scottish woman expressed.
Furthermore, she offered to share her social media accounts with the world as evidence of her innocence.
When questioned by Morgan about her curiosity regarding her portrayal, she responded, “No, I think it would be distressing. This case has consumed enough of my life. I find it deeply unsettling, and tinged with misogyny.”
“Some of the threats were horrifying. People reached out to me. I couldn’t fathom such things, and this series isn’t aligned with my tastes,” she elaborated. She criticized the attention on her, deeming it unkind, as “we’re revisiting something from years ago,” and she couldn’t comprehend how the comedian translated the entire ordeal onto the screen.
Following the interview, she lambasted Morgan, accusing the journalist of misleading her. She hadn’t anticipated questions like, “Are you certain you didn’t send this individual 41,000 emails?”
“Throughout a significant portion of the interview, about 10 minutes, he persisted with it. My response was this: Even if I let certain matters go, it doesn’t imply guilt for everything else. For something to be presented as truth, it must align with the facts. I feel somewhat exploited,” she conveyed to the media before the interview aired.
Many viewers believed Morgan had violated journalistic ethics—especially since Gadd himself acknowledged the real Martha’s mental health struggles.
