The Commissioner of Police for the Delta State Command, Mr. Abaniwonda Olufemi, has emphasized that the well-being of both current and deceased officers remains a primary concern for the Inspector General of Police.
Olufemi reiterated this stance on Thursday during a ceremony held in Asaba, the command’s headquarters, where he presented a cheque totaling N47,827,529 to the families of deceased police officers.
He stated, “On behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, I am presenting cheques totaling N47,827,529 to 22 families of deceased officers who lost their lives while in active service.”
These cheques, issued to the next of kin of the deceased officers, are part of the IGP Family Welfare Scheme, including the Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Insurance Schemes.
“The welfare of both serving and deceased officers is a priority for the Inspector General of Police, and it is on his behalf that these cheques are being presented to the families.
“We express gratitude for the gesture from the IGP, as these cheques will undoubtedly provide significant support to the families and serve as a reminder that, although their loved ones are no longer with us, their sacrifices are not forgotten.
“The force remains committed to honoring the sacrifices made by these officers during their lives.”
One of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police for his generosity, emphasizing that the funds provided to them will be used wisely and responsibly.
