Daniel Anjorin, the teenage boy who tragically lost his life during a sword attack in Hainault, east London, has been officially identified.
The 14-year-old succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident, which occurred on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Alongside Daniel, four others, including two police officers, were injured in the attack.
The victim’s mother was identified as a teacher at Holy Family Catholic School in Waltham Forest. The suspect involved in the incident has been apprehended and is currently in police custody.
The 36-year-old individual, depicted wearing a yellow hooded jumper and a beard, was arrested on suspicion of murder. Following his arrest, he was transported to the hospital due to injuries sustained from crashing his van into a fence.
The Metropolitan Police, on Wednesday, released the first image of Daniel, showcasing him in his school uniform with a striped blue tie, while commuting on public transport.
As detectives continue their investigation, Daniel’s family is receiving support from specialist officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith, who is leading the investigation, expressed condolences to the grieving family, emphasizing the need to respect their privacy during this difficult time.
Simon Marshall, the headteacher of Bancroft’s School attended by Daniel Anjorin, conveyed heartfelt condolences to parents, describing Daniel as a cherished pupil.
Marshall expressed disbelief at facing another tragedy so soon after the loss of a former student in previous incidents.
